Local Sports For Friday February 8

Stratton's Trevor Bonot is in a tie for second spot after the second day of play at Northern Ontario men's curling championship in Nipigon.

Bonot, who curls out of Thunder Bay, lost to Al Hackner of Thunder Bay 7-3, then beat Robbie Gordon of Sudbury 8-6 in a night draw.




At the bantam curling championships, Chris Silver's Fort Frances rink split its first two games to open the boys championship in Longlac, losing 8-6 to Nick Servant of Sault Ste. Marie, then beating MacKenzie Joblin of Thunder Bay 8-7.

Hannah Bazinet's Atikokan rink dropped both its first two games at the girls event in Sioux Lookout.




International Falls Broncos girls hockey team's season is over, with a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Princeton in the quarter-finals of the Section 7A championship.

On the hardwood, the Broncos girls basketball team beat Greenway 78-35.



Northwestern Ontario Regional pee-wee all-stars lost 7-1 in their opener of a tournament in Brandon to the host Brandon Wheat Kings.

Kenora's Jayme Caron had the Stars only goal.

They play Lumsden this afternoon.
