Local Sports For Wednesday November 27

Shelby Tymkin notched a hat track as the Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team thumped Dryden 7-2.

Amy Penner added two while Jessica Coran and Kaily Greengrass notched singles.

Calie Clendenning faced 23 shots in net for the win.

The girls next head to Sioux Lookout tomorrow for a NorWossa game against the Queen Elizabeth Warriors.



The Fort Frances Lakers got two goals and three assists apiece from Mason Meyer and Lyndon Lipinski to power past Wisconsin 9-5 last night in Spooner.

Lucas Debenedet also tallied twice and set-up two others while Kevin Kurm scored twice and Bryce Lipinski added a single.

The two teams hook up a third straight time Friday at the Ice for Kids Arena.



Fort Frances Lakers forward Mason Meyer has been named SIJHL player of the week.

Meyer had 2 goals and six assists in the Lakers three outings last week.



Former Laker Henry Gutierrez had a goal as Williston State College defeated Dakota College 6-2.



The International Falls Broncos boys basketball team fell 88-24 to Cloquet.

Cody Hallin led the team in scoring with 9 points.

Local Sports For Tuesday November 26

Amy Auran scored four times as the International Falls Broncos girls hockey team blanked the Lake of the Woods Bears 10-0.

Amber Tilander added a pair while Emily Saari, Katie West, Sydney Raboin, and Tessa Walls added singles.



Fort Frances Lakers have dropped a couple of spots in the weekly Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings.

The SIJHL leaders move to 4th from 2nd last week.

The Lakers host Wisconsin tonight.



Ben Gordon of International Falls has been named player of the week in the Central Hockey League.

The Tulsa Oilers forward finished with 2 goals and six assists in three games last week.

Local Sports For Monday November 25

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team captured a tournament in Dryden, beating Winkler 3-2 in a shootout in the final game.

Cole Tymkin notched the deciding goal.



The Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team blanked the Thunder Bay Queen's Midget team 3-0 in an exhibition game Sunday in Thunder Bay.



Fort Frances Canadians AA midget team lost 4-3 in a game played against the Triple A regional team.

Brody McPherson scored twice for the Canadians with Connor Botsford adding the other.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey team dropped a pair of games to North Dakota State, losing 3-2 Saturday and 2-1 Sunday.

Taylor Durocher and Jaylene Anderson scored in Saturday's contest while Taylor Dixon had the Voyageurs lone goal yesterday.



The Voyageurs men's basketball team split games on the weekend, losing to Gogebic Friday 82-59, but rebounding for a 112-103 win over Itasca on Saturday.

Local Sports For Thursday November 21

The Kathy Jackson rink has slipped to one and 3 at the Dominion Curling Club Championships in Thunder Bay after a 6-3 loss to the Northwest Territories.

The Fort Frances foursome led 3-2 after four ends before giving up four straight points in the next three.

The rink need to win its final two games today against the Yukon and B.C. for any hope of making the playoff round.



Tanner Fricke scored twice and then added the decider in the shootout as the Fort Frances Lakers beat the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-5 in Hoyt Lakes.

Mason Meyer also scored twice with Patrick Sofer adding the other Laker goal.

The Lakers are back on home ice tomorrow against Wisconsin.

Local Sports For Wednesday November 20

Kathy Jackson is into the win column at the Dominion Curling Club Championships in Thunder Bay.

The Fort Frances rink split games yesterday, beating New Brunswick 9-4 in the afternoon before losing to Alberta 5-2 last night and sits in a tie for fourth in the grey pool at 1 and 2.

The team plays Nova Scotia this morning and Northwest Territories this afternoon.



The Fort Frances Lakers picked up a point, but their 15-game win streak has come to an end.

The Lakers lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Thunder Bay North Stars in a game that needed five rounds to decide.

The Lipinski brothers, Kyle, Lyndon and Bryce and Lucas Debenedet provided the scoring for the Lakers in regulation time.

The Lakers are in Hoyt Lakes tonight face the Minnesota Iron Rangers.



In high school hockey, Fort Frances Muskies boys team beat Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos 6-3 to improve to 2 and 0 in NorWossa play.

International Falls Broncos girls hockey team blanked Park Rapids 2-0.



The swimming season for the Falls High School girls team has ended.

Abby Kostiuk, Emily Saari and the team's 200 medley relay team, all failed to move on, following preliminary heats yesterday at the State Class A meet in Minneapolis.

Local Sports For Tuesday November 19

The Kathy Jackson rink has lost its first game at the Dominion Curling Club Championship in Thunder Bay, 7-4 to Manitoba.

The Fort Frances team representing Northern Ontario held a 3-0 lead after two ends, before Manitoba took control with 5 in the next three.

Jackson's foursome next faces New Brunswick as 12:15 p.m. Fort Frances time today.



The Fort Frances Lakers haven't played a game all week, but have moved up one spot to second overall in the Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings.

Winners of a franchise-record 15-straight, the SIJHL leading Lakers are in Thunder Bay tonight to face the North Stars who are ranking 16th in the nation.



It's a busy night for high school hockey teams.

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team is home to Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos in a NorWossa match up, 7:15 p.m at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The Muskies girls hockey team is played at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

The International Falls Broncos girls hockey team is home to Park Rapids, 7 p.m. at Bronco Arena.

Local Sports For Monday November 18

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team finished second overall at the Morden Thunder tournament.

After going undefeated in round robin play, the Muskies beat Morden 3-2, but lost to Stanford 5-3 in the playoff round Saturday.



International Falls Broncos girls hockey team defeated Silver Bay Friday 6-3 for its first win of the season.



A pair of title for girls hockey teams in the Rainy River district.

The Emo Express won the Thunder Bay November Chill tournament in the bantam division with a 1-0 win over Kenora.

The Fort Frances Super 8 defeated the Thunder Bay Hurricanes in a shoot out 2-1 to take the pee wee title.

Looking at the play of local players in other ranks, Joe Basabara had a goal and an assist in helping Minnesota-Duluth to a 6-3 win Saturday over North Dakota.

Mitch Cain had a goal and an assist in Bemidji State's 4-4 tie with Alaska-Anchorage Saturday.

Ryan Faragher recorded his seventh win of the season Saturday in St. Cloud's 4-3 win Alabama-Huntsvile.

Ryan Cramer and Drew Fisher, both of International Falls, each had a goal and assist in Tulsa 's 6-3 win over Brampton in a Central Hockey League game.

Jordan Christianson, also of International Falls picked up an assist in games with Concordia-Moorhead against Gustavus-Adolphus.

He has 6 points in six games with the Cobbers.

Former Laker Cody Hasbargan had an assist Friday in Northland College's 4-3 win over Lawrence University.



Fort Frances Muskies girls basketball team was swept in two games by Thunder Bay's Hammarskjold for the NWOSSA championship.

The Muskies were dropped 45-10 Friday and 57-13 on Saturday.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's basketball team opened its season with a pair of wins, defeating Fond Du Lac Friday 84-69, then getting by Mesabi Range Saturday 55-44.

The men split their games, beating Fond Du Lac 84-69. but falling to Mesabi Range 105-75.



Play in the Dominion Curling Club Championships in Thunder Bay opens tonight for the Fort Frances foursome skipped by Kathy Jackson.

The team plays Alberta tonight at 7 p.m. Fort Frances time, not Newfoundland-Labrador as mentioned this morning.

The game can be watched on-line through the championship's website.



Members of the Fort Frances Aquanauts picked up a number of medals at a swim meet in Kenora on the weekend.

Josh Cousineau led the way with a first, a second and four-third place finishes.

Lyndsi Jo Wilson had a first and two thirds.

Cassidy Roach and sisters Ayiana and Jacy Gagne each earned bronze medals.
