Local Sports for Mnday February 28

Barbara Ward of Thunder Bay and Eric Harden of Sudbury will represent Northern Ontario at the Canadian Senior curling championships in Nova Scotia next month.

The two rinks won the provincial titles during play at the Fort Frances Curling Club.

Judy LaBelle's Fort Frances rink was eliminated from the women's division in an earier playoff game.

Roslyn Broman, also of Fort Frances, ended the round robin play with a 2 win 4 loss record.



The Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team's playoff series with Dryden has come down to a one game winner take all.

The Eagles tied the best-of-three series with a 2-1 win yesterday at the Ice for Kids Arena.

Danielle Jean scored the Muskies only goal.

The Muskies won the opener 3-2 in overtime in Dryden Friday.

Game three goes tomorrow night in Dryden.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team has taken a one-game to nothing lead in its playoff series with Red Lake.

The Muskies defeated the Rams Saturday night 11-2.

Game two is tonight in Red Lake.



Fort Frances Muskies senior boys basketball team was eliminated in two close games for the NWOSSA title by the Superior Collegiate Griffins in Thunder Bay.

The Muskies lost 38-35 Saturday, and 38-36 Friday.



The Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team was eliminated from the MCAC playoffs Friday by Rochester 99-79.





Fort Frances Thunderhawks were swept in Kenora by the Thistles over the weekend.

They lost 5-1 Saturday and 6-1 yesterday.



Two members of the Fort Frances Aquanunts swim team earned medals at a provincial meet in Ottawa over the weekend.

16-year-old Donovan Taylor captured gold in the 200 metre Individual Medley, silver in the 200 metre Butterfly and a Bronze Medal in the 200 metre Backstroke.

12-year-old Adam Stromberg, swimming in his first ever provincial event, won silver in the 50 free and a bronze in the 100 metre free.

Local Sports for Friday February 25

Judy LaBelle's Fort Frances rink remains unbeaten following day one play at the Northern Ontario senior curling championships at the Fort Frances Curling Club.

Labelle defeated Barb McEwan of Thunder Bay 10-5 then held on for a 9-8 win over Rosyln Broman, also of Fort Frances.

Broman won her opening draw, 9-3 over Roma Lundgren of Sudbury.

The women are back on the ice at 9:30 a.m. today with LaBelle facing Marion Clark of Thunder Bay while Broman is up against McEwan



Ken Anderson of Red Lake, Bruce Munro of Sudbury and Ian Fisher of Sault Ste. Marie are tied for the early lead on the senior men's side following opening round play last night.

The men are back on the ice at 2 p.m. this afternoon.



Fort Frances Lakers rallied for three goals in the third to defeat Sioux Lookout 4-2.

The win, combined with Thunder Bay's 4-3 overtime lost to Duluth, clinches second spot for the Lakers who will open the SIJHL playoffs against Wisconsin.



A goal with just over a minute to go gave Duluth Marshall a 3-2 win over the International Falls Broncos boys hockey team, eliminating the Broncos from the Section 7A championship.

Michael Bounds and Michael Misner scored the Falls goals.



Fort Frances Muskies hockey teams begin playoff action this weekend.

The girls team is in Dryden tonight for the start of its semi-final series with the Eagles.

Game 2 will go Sunday at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The boys team hosts Red Lake at the Ice for Kids Arena in the first of a best of 3 semi-final on Saturday.


Fort Frances Lakers head coach Wayne Strachan has been named SIJHL coach of the year.

It's the third time Strachan's won the award.

He won the award with the Borderland Thunder in 2002 and the Fort Frances Sabres in 2008.



Fort Frances Thunderhawks and the Kenora Thistles are facing each other this weekend in a challenge for the Gary Cook Cup.

Although the teams have earned berths to the Allan Cup playoffs, it was decided to hold a series of games leading up to the tournament, putting the Northwestern Ontario championship trophy on the line.

Former Fort Frances resident Duncan Keith has been named British Columbia's male athlete of the year.

Keith, who now calls Penticton home, was honoured his play in Chicago's Stanley Cup victory last spring and with Canada's Gold Medal winning hockey team at the Vancouver Olympics.

Fort Frances rinks skipped by Judy LaBelle and Roslyn Broman will represent the Rainy River district at the Northern Ontario senior curling championships that get underway today at the Fort Frances Curling Club.

LaBelle plays Barb McEwen of Thunder Bay while Broman is up against Roma Lundgren of Sudbury in first draw action this afternoon

Seven women's and six men's teams are vying for the right to represent Northern Ontario at a national event in Nova Scotia.

A win clinches second spot.



International Broncos boys hockey team begins play for the Section 7A championship with a game in Duluth against Duluth Marshall.



Two members of the Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team have been recognized for their play by the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.

Derek Scully and Sheldon Esdelle-Blackburn were named to the northern division team.

Scully also captured a spot on the all-state team.

Fort Frances Muskies senior boys basketball team captured the NorWossa title in Kenora yesterday with a 50-32 win over the host Beaver Brae Broncos.

The team will now play the Superior Collegiate Griffins for the NWossa championship this weekend in Thunder Bay.

The Muskies senior girls volleyball team also reached the finals but was defeated by Dryden in four sets.

The junior boys basketball team and junior girls volleyball team were eliminated in semi-final action.



Shawn Filipiak had 17 points in the International Falls Broncos boys basketball team's 63-45 win over Orr.

The girls team lost to Orr 66-61.



A five-goal performance from Jillian Langtry paced the Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team to a 5-1 win over the Dryden Eagles last night at the 52 Canadians Rink.

The two teams will meet in the opening round of the NorWossa playoffs with game one Friday in Dryden.



Fort Frances Lakers gave up three-goals in the third to fall 5-4 to the visiting Dryden Ice Dogs last night at the Ice for Kids Arena.

Blake Boaz with a pair, Ryan Wilman and Tyler Stevenson scored for the home side who wind out their regular season in Sioux Lookout tomorrow night.

Boaz, meantime, was named SIJHL defensive player of the year.

Local Sports for Tuesday February 22

Fort Frances Aquanaut swimmer Donovan Taylor captured two medals, including gold in the boys 16 and under 200 metre individual medley, at a national championship in London, Ontario on the weekend.

It's the first time a local swimmer has medalled at such an event.

Taylor hopes to capture a spot on the National Tri-meet team.

He also earned silver in the 400 Metres I-M.



NorWossa playoffs for the Muskies court teams get underway today in Kenora.

The girls volleyball teams have semi-final games this morning against Beaver Brae

The junior boys basketball team also plays Beaver Brae in a semi-final game.

The senior boys basketball team earn a bye to the final following a first place finish in the regular season.



Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team concludes its regular season in NorWossa tonight with a home games against the Dryden Eagles.

The Muskies will meet Dryden to open the playoffs at the end of this week.



Three area teams reached the finals of a Novice A tournament held in Fort Frances over the weekend.

Fort Frances Skates and Blades lost 4-3 to the Thunder Bay Sabres in the A-side final.

Fort Frances Taggs Sources for Sports fell 5-3 to Thunder Bay's North End in the B-Side

The Emo Little Loggers won 5-2 over Kenora for the C-side title.



Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team defeated Fond Du Lac Saturday 95-74.

Derek Scully led with 24 points.

Local Sports for Friday February 18


A two-goal performance from Tyler Stevenson paced the Fort Frances Lakers to a 3-2 win over the Thunder Bay North Stars at the Ice for Kids Arena last night.

The win gives the Lakers a five-point bulge on the Stars in the battle for second place.

Meantime, Stevenson has been named the SIJHL's most sportsmanlike player.

The league's leading goal score has just 17 penalty minutes in 51 games.



Poor weather and road conditions in the Kenora area has forced the cancellation of today's NorWOSSA double A court sports finals.

The games will be rescheduled to another day.



Other High School action today sees the Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team hosting the International Falls Broncos - 7:15 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The Broncos boys basketball team is up against Aitkin in a game being played in Virginia.



Ten atom teams are expected for a weekend tournament hosted by the Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association.

Play begins at 10 a.m. this morning with games running at the Emo-LaVallee Arena until Sunday.




Atikokan's Hannah Bazinet is among just three girls rinks competing at a northern Ontario Bantam curling inter-regional event in Sioux Lookout this weekend.

Two will earn berths to a provincial event in Englehart next month.

Local Sports for Thursday February 17

A 3-goal performance by Tyler Stevenson last night was spoiled as the Fort Frances Lakers fell 4-3 to the Dryden Ice Dogs in Dryden.

The loss, combined with a Thunder Bay win over Sioux Lookout, leaves the Lakers 3 points up on the Stars for second place.

The two teams meet tonight at the Ice for Kids Arena.



A shorthanded Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team lost 103-79 to Vermilion Community College in Ely.

Just six Voyageurs dressed for the game.

Several members of the Fort Frances Lakers are among the finalists for this years SIJHL awards.

Bryon Katapaytuk is up for the league's MVP award.

Tyler Ampe is a finalist for the Top goaltender award.

Blake Boaz has been nominated for the Best Defensive Forward.

Jaret Leclair is among the Most Improved Player finalists.

Tyler Stevenson is a finalist for the Most Sportsmanlike Player award.

And Wayne Strachan is up for Coach of the Year.

The winners at to be announced over the next few weeks.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team lost 3-2 in a shoot out to Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos last night at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The Muskies still earned a single point which gives them a lock on first place in the NORWOSSA standings.

They'll face Red Lake in the playoffs next week.



International Falls Broncos girls hockey team's season has come to an end with a 3-2 overtime loss to Chisago Lakes in the Section 7A semi-finals.

Amy Auran had both goals for the Broncos.

In Roseau, the Broncos boys hockey team fell 5-2 to the Rams.

Joel Skirten and Brett Musich provided the scoring.

Their playoffs begin next week.

The Broncos boys basketball team defeated Mountain-Iron Buhl 74-25.

The NORWOSSA regular season ends for the Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team tonight with a home game against the Beaver Brae Broncos.

The Muskies are four points up on the Broncos in the standings with the Kenora team having a game in hand.

Game time at the Ice for Kids Arena is 7:15 p.m.



International Falls Broncos girls hockey team faces top ranked Chisago Lakes in a Section 7A championship semi-final game in Cloquet.

The winner advances to Friday's final.

The boys hockey team concludes its regular season with a game in Roseau.

The Broncos boys basketball team hosts Mountain Iron-buhl - 7:30 p.m. at Falls High school.

Local Sports for Monday February 14

Donovan Taylor will represent Fort Frances High School at this month's all-Ontario high school swimming championships.

Taylor will swim in two events after qualifying during a swim meet at the Memorial Sports Centre over the weekend.

Taylor, who also swims for the Fort Frances Aquanauts, also won the boy's 15 and over title.

Levi Rittau placed second in the 13-14 age category while Adam Stromberg earned bronze in the 11-12 boy's division.

On the girls side, Katja Sutherland was first in the 15-and-over division while Krista Emond was third.

Regan Danylchuk was also third in the 11-12 girl's divisions.



Steve Arpin had his ARCA series season start with a 32nd place finish at Daytona Saturday.

The Fort Frances native was running 14th when he become involved in a multi-car accident with 17 laps remaining.



Jace Baldwin scored twice, including the game winner, to help the Fort Frances Lakers to a 4-2 win over Sioux Lookout Saturday at the Ice for Kids Arena.

Jordan Sinclair and Matthew Caulfield had the other Laker goals.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey team sweep St. Scholastic at Bronco Arena, winning 9-2 Saturday and 7-2 yesterday.

Brenley Anderson had four goals in Saturday's game.

Jessie Baker with two, Stevie-Lee Langford, Courtney Scholler and Carlee Bosma rounded out the Voyageurs' scoring.

Sunday, Baker notched four-goals with Anderson getting a pair.

Cassandra Cochrane had the other.



The Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team defeated Mesabi Range Saturday 93-87.

Derek Scully leading with 26 poitns.



High School action Friday saw the Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team lose 5-3 to Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos.

Scoring for the Muskies were Jillian Langtry, Ericka Tymkin and Shae-lynn Smith.

The International Falls Broncos girl's basketball team defeated Virginia 75-54 while the boy's hockey team was thumped 15-2 by Grand Rapids.



Fort Frances squashers took four titles at the Welsey Derksen Open Squash Tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre.

On the men's side, John Sivonen won the B-side while Alex Bruyere took the D-side.

Anika Alexander captured the B-side final in women's play while Sara Coish earned the C-side title.

Local Sports for Friday February 11

Tim Nordin defeated John Salo of Geraldton 5-3 last night to earn his third win at the Northern Ontario provincial men's curling championship in Thunder Bay.

A earlier lost, though, to Mike Assad eliminated the Stratton rink from playoff contention.

Today, Nordin's rink concludes play with games against Mike Pozihun of Thunder Bay and Mike Jakubo of Copper Cliff.



Ashley Bahr scored 2 minutes into overtime to give the International Falls Broncos girls hockey team a 4-3 win in Silver Bay.

The win moves the Broncos to a semi-final games in the Section 7-A championship against Chisago Lakes next Tuesday.

Sydney Gordon with two and MacKenzie Raboin also scored for the Broncos.



The Broncos boys hockey team lost 3-2 to the Lake of the Woods Bears.

They face Grand Rapids tonight.




Gunnar Anderson led with 24 points and 5-three pointers as the Broncos boys basketball team defeated Greenway 86-49.

The girls team also defeated Greenway, 69-48.

Hanna Heibel, with 15 points, topped all Broncos scorers.



Steve Arpin is again showing that he's will among those to beat at this weekend's ARCA series opener at Daytona Internatinoal Speedway.

The Fort Frances native drove to the fourth fastest time in practice yesterday.

Qualifying for Saturday's race goes today.



The Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team is home to Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos.

Tim Nordin's Stratton rink suffered another set back at the Northern Ontario provincial men's curling championship in Thunder Bay

The team lost 8-6 to Joe Scharf of Thunder Bay and 7-1 to David McInness of Englehart to fall to 2 and 5, well back of the leaders.

Nordin faces Mike Assad of Thunder Bay and John Salo of Geraldton today.



A four-goal second period helped the Fort Frances Lakers to a 7-4 win over the Dryden Ice Dogs last night in Dryden.

Josh Scott scored twice with singles from Ryan Wildman, Jaret Leclair, Tyler Stevenson, Henry Gutierrez and Jon Sinclair.




Erick Larson of Atikokan High School picked up a silver medal at the NWOSSA Nordic ski championships in Kenora yesterday.

Larson finished second in the junior boys 5-k event.



Fort Frances Muskies court teams earn three of four wins in games against Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos yesterday.

The senior boys basketball team won 53-31, the junior boys won 35-25.

The senior girls volleyball team defeated Beaver Brae in four sets while the juniors lost in four.



Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team had four players in double digits in scoring in a 91-86 win over Hibbing.

Derek Scully led the way with 19 points.




International Falls Broncos girls hockey team will face Silver Bay tonight to open the Section 7A quarter-finals.

The Broncos have been seeded fifth.

The win advances to play top-ranked Chisago Lakes in next Tuesday's semi-finals.




The Broncos boys hockey team continue regular season play with a home game against the Lake of the Woods Bears.

Game time at Bronco Arena is 7:30 p.m.

The boys basketball team host Greenway - 7:30 p.m. at Falls High School.

Local Sports for Wednesday February 9



Tim Nordin helped his own cause with a pair of wins yesterday at the Northern Ontario provincial men's curling championship in Thunder Bay.

His Stratton rink defeated North Bay's Dustin Montpellier 6-3 in an afternoon draw then held on for a 6-5 win over Robbie Gordon of Sudbury.

Today, Nordin faces unbeaten Joe Scharf of Thunder Bay this morning and David McInniss of Englehart this afternoon.




Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team was edged 4-3 by St. Thomas Aquinas last night in Kenora.

Jillian Langtry, Ericka Tymkin and Hailey Clendenning scored for the Muskies.



Fort Frances Muskies court teams earned a single win out of games played in Dryden yesterday.
The Senior boys basketball team rolled to a 53-28 decision over the Eagles.

Josh Strain with 13 points and Craig Legg with 10 lead the way for the Muskies.

The junior boys team lost 53-30.

In volleyball, the senior girls team was ousted in three sets while the juniors lost in four.

The teams host Kenora today.



Shawn Filipiak drained 21 points, but the International Falls Broncos boys basketball team fell to Virginia 70-54.



On the schedule today, the Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team is home to Hibbing - 7 p.m. at the College.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team is in Kenora.

Local Sports for Tuesday February 8



Tim Nordin's Stratton rink remains winless after the second day of play at the Northern Ontario men's provincial curling championship in Thunder Bay.

Nordin lost an 11-end game to Jeff Currie of Thunder Bay yesterday morning then dropped a 7-4 decision to Thunder Bay's Bryan Burgess in the afternoon.

Today, Nordin faces Dustin Montpellier's North Bay rink and Sudbury's Robbie Gordon.




Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team defeated the Lake of the Woods Bears in Baudette last night 5-1.

Jillian Langtry had a hat trick with Shae-Lynn Smith adding the other two goals.

The Muskies are in Kenora tonight for a game against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.



International Falls Broncos girls basketball team lost 62-54 to Cherry.



Border Skating Club's Sophie Potvin-Begin will skate in a provincial event next month.

Potvin-Begin won the Junior Silver Ladies Freeskate at the Festival of Stars in Sault Ste. Marie on the weekend to earn a spot to the Trillium STARSkate in Mississauga.




Fort Frances Muskies senior boys basketball team earned silver at a tournament in Kenora on the weekend.

The Muskies lost 65-60 in the final to Transcona of Winnipeg.

Local Sports for Monday February 7

Tim Nordin's Stratton rink dropped its first game at the northern Ontario men's provincial curling playdown in Thunder Bay, losing 11-1 to Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie.

Nordin plays Bryan Burgess of Thunder Bay this afternoon.



Bryan Bonot's Stratton rink just missed out on a chance to advance to the Canadians Masters curling playdown, finishing with a 4-2 record at the northern Ontario event in Kakabeka Falls.

The other area rink skipped by Ken McKinnon of Fort Frances finished with a 2-4 record.



Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team won a pair of NORWOSSA games on the weekend.

Friday, the Muskies beat Sioux Lookout 8-3.

Jillian Langtry had a four-goal game.

Shae-Lynn Smith chipped in 3 goals with Taylor Dixon grabbing the other.

Saturday, the Muskies beat Red Lake 6-4.

Smith had two goals with singles from Langtry, Jessica Taggart, Hailey Clendenning and Sydney Jones

Dana Cridland was in net for both wins.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team beat Red Lake Friday 9-2.




International Falls Broncos boys hockey team defeated Silver Bay Friday 8-0.

Lucas Debenedet and Christian Kittleson each scored twice.

Beau Herzig, Alex Breuss, Broc Friend and Eric Lassila added singles

Matt Pelowski stopped 11 shots for the shutout.

The girls team concluded its regular season with a 6-2 win over Park Rapids on Saturday.

Sydney Gordon had a hat trick in the game.

The Broncos's other goals came from Amada Hofius, Mackenzie Raboin and Bailey Bernard.



Fort Frances Boston Pizza Royal took the pee-wee AA title at the Thunder Bay Elks tournament with a 4-2 win over Longlac in the final game.

Cole Tymkin and Graeme Kitt each scored twice.

Elsewhere in the same tournament, the Fort Frances Canadian Tire Sabres lost 4-2 to the Thunder Bay Beavers in the Bantam B-final.

The Emo Cowboys lost 3-1 to Kendall, Wisconsin in the Midget-B final.

The Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association lost 5-0 to the Thunder Bay Comets in midget-B consolation final.



Fort Frances Energy Fitness Wild defeated Skates and Blades 2-1 in a shootout out to earn third place in the bantam division of girl's hockey tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre.



The Rainy Voyageurs finished sixth overall at the Manitoba Women's Junior Hockey Leagues Lt. Governor's Cup.

The event also featured teams from Manitoba and Alberta.

The Voyageurs won their open Friday, 4-1 over the Winnipeg A & W Silvertips.

Stevie-lee Langford scored twice with singles from Brenley Anderson and Jessie Baker.

In their second game Friday, the Voyageur's tied the Western Predators 4-4 with the Predators scoring the tying goal with 2.6 seconds remaining.

Langford led the scoring with 2 goals with singles from Baker and Carlee Bosma.

Saturday, the Voyageurs tied Alberta's Sherwood Park Steele 1-1.

Langford scored the team's only goal.

In their final game, the Voyageurs were shutout 2-0 by the Prairie Blaze.


The Voyageur's men's basketball team lost 77-71 to Itasca on Saturday.

Sheldon Esdelle-Blackburn with 18 points in a losing cause.

Local Sports for Friday February 4



Both Rainy River district curling rinks are atop the leader board at the Northern Ontario Masters provincials in Kakabeka Falls.

Ken McKinnon of Fort Frances beat Don Spakowski of Thunder Bay in an afternoon draw 8-4, then Bob Coulter of Elliot Lake 9-8, scoring 3 in the final end to win.

Bryan Bonot's Stratton rink opened play with a 8-4 win over Ron Kowalchuk of Thunder Bay.



Dan Smith scored twice in the third period, including the equalizer with 31 seconds left, then notched the only goal in the shootout, as the Fort Frances Lakers beat Wisconsin 6-5 at the Ice for Kids Arena.

Jace Baldwin, Jon Sinclair and Byron Katapaytuk also scored for the home side.

In International Falls, the Broncos boys hockey team was blanked at home by Hibbing 7-0.

The girls hockey team lost 4-3 to Eveleth-Gilbert.

Mackenzie Raboin, Hilary Fox and Bailey Bernard with the Bronco goals.

On the hardwood the Broncos girls team defeated Mesabi East 65-50.

The boys basketball team lost to Warroad 56-54.




Fort Frances Muskies court teams won three of four games played against Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos in Kenora

The senior boys basketball team won 62-36.

The juniors won 33-32.

In volleyball the senior girls swept the Broncos in three sets while the junior girls lost in five.



A girls hockey tournament kicks off this morning at the Memorial Sports Centre involving Bantam and Midget teams.

Teams from Fort Frances, Kenora, Thunder Bay, Dryden and Winnipeg are taking part.

Local Sports for Thursday February 3


Play at the Northern Ontario curling provincial masters championships begins in Kakabeka Falls today with two Rainy River district rinks taking part on the men's side.

Rinks skipped by Bryan Bonot of Stratton and Ken McKinnon of Fort Frances are vying for a spot to next month's Canadian Masters in Winnipeg.


Rainy River Voyageur men's basketball team lost 98-86 to Northland.

Local Sports for Wednesday February 2


Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team battled back from a third goal deficit to force overtime and beat the Dryden Eagles 5-4 in a shoot out last night in Dryden.

Colton Spicer notched the only goal in the shoot out for the win.

Nikolas Jourdain with 2, Spicer and Brett McMahon scored in regulation with Devin Stromness in net for the win.




International Falls Broncos girls hockey team defeated the Muskies 2-1 in a game played at the Ice for Kids Arena.

MacKenzie Raboin and Michelle McDonald scored for the Broncos.

Taylor Dixon had the lone marker for the Muskies.



The Broncos boys hockey team defeated Two Harbours 11-1



The Broncos boys basketball team beat Ely 51-42.

Trevar Carlson lead with 11 points.




Fort Frances Muskies court teams split games with Dryden.

The senior boys basketball team beat the Eagles 68-38.

The junior boys lost 48-39 with Mike Murphy chipping in 12 points.

In Volleyball, the senior girls team won in four sets while the junior girls lost in four.

Local Sports for Tuesday February 1


Steve Arpin has been officially added to the line-up for this month's ARCA series opener at Daytona.

He'll again drive for Venturini Motorsports in the Febraury 12 race.

In two previous starts, the Fort Frances native finished twentieth in 2009 and tenth last year.


Just one area score from last night.

The International Falls Broncos girls basketball team lost 73-36 to Mountain Iron Buhl.

Sophia Fredrickson led all Broncos with 12 points.



On the schedule today, Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team hosts the Broncos - 7:15 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The Broncos won the previous meeting, 7-6 back on December 7.

The Muskies boys hockey team is in Dryden.

The Broncos boys hockey team hosts Two Harbours - 7:30 p.m. at Bronco arena.

The Broncos boys basketball team hosts Ely - 7:30 p.m. at Falls High School.
