Local Sports For Monday February 11

No provincial titles for area curling rinks.

Stratton's Trevor Bonot finished the men's championship in Nipigon in a three-way tie for fifth.

Brad Jacobs will represent Northern Ontario at the Brier.

Chris Silver's Fort Frances rink ended with a 3-3 record at the bantam boys championship in Longlac, an event won by Tanner Horgan of Sudbury.

Atikokan's Hannah Bazinet finished with a 1-6 record at the bantam girls championship in Sioux Lookout.

They're only win coming against the eventual champion, Jenna Poirier out of Sioux Lookout.



Fort Frances Muskies seniors boy basketball team won its first two games played in the new Northland Cup Series.

The Muskies beat Dryden 51-48, then clobbered Kenora's Beaver Brae 76-38 in the first of three tournaments.



Fort Frances Muskies junior boys basketball team has a couple of wins under its belt to open play in the new Northland Cup Series.

Liam Metke had 13 points in the Muskies 56-23 win over Ignace in the series first tournament in Dryden.

Then Joey Angus hit for 18 points in a 45-41 win in overtime of Kenora's Thomas Aquinas.

The second of three tournament for both junior and senior boys teams goes February 23.

The Atikokan Voyageurs evened their record at 2 and 2 with 45-39 win over Sioux Lookout and a 33-29 win over Dryden at the same tournament.


Northwestern Ontario's regional pee-wee team lost 8-0 to Assiniboine Park in the semi-finals of a tournament in Brandon.

The Stars went 2 and one in round robin play.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey team lost both games played against the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Abby Fox had a pair of goals in a 5-4 loss Saturday.

Yesterday, the Voyageurs were blanked 4-0.



Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams split games played against Itasca Saturday.

The women won 68-53, but the men lost 65-54.
