Local Sports for Tuesday August 1

The Rainy River District Fastball League will open its double-knockout playoffs today.

9th place Manitou will face 10th place Northwest Bay with the winners to face 1st place finisher Beefs Warriors on Thursday.

7th place Stratton plays 8th place Big Island with the winner playing the Big Grassy Braves.



Fort Frances swimmer Donovan Taylor is back home following competitions at the Canadian Age Group championships in Montreal.

Taylor failed to qualify for the finals of any of the event he was competing in.

His best finish came in the 200 metre I-M where the was 18th fastest.



At the Emo Go-Kart track Friday, A-J Kellar won a heat and the feature in the novice class.

Jake Froemke won the other heat.

Wyatt Boyum swept both heats and the feature in the advanced class.

Saturday night's racing at Emo Speedway saw Gavin Paull take his 8th straight in the WISSOTA Modified class.

Jeff Wickstrom won the Street Stocks.

Brady Caul claimed his second feature of the season in the Midwest Modifieds for his feature win.
