Local Sports for Thursday April 14

Fort Frances Thunderhawks will face the host Kenora Thistles in a playoff game at the Allan Cup tournament in Kenora tonight.

The Thunderhawks lost both of their round robin games while the Thistles finished second in their pool with a one and one record.



A Rainy River woman is up for the title of coach of the year by the Coaches Association of Ontario

Rebecca Tolen is one of six finalists for the award that's voted on by the public.

Tolen, the librarian at Rainy River High School, helped start the soccer program in the community and now coaches the senior basketball teams and girls soccer.

Voting will conclude midnight Sunday.

Two members of the Rainy River High School badminton team have won NorWossa titles.

Courtney Hanson went 5-and-oh to win in senior girls singles while Skylar Aprin did the same in junior girls singles yesterday in Red Lake.

Justin Moen was third in senior boys singles, but will join Hanson at the NWossa championships next week in Marathon.

Arpin will also attend, but the juniors will compete in exhibition play.
