Local Sports for Tuesday April 5

It appears there will be soccer played in the Borderland this summer.

The Borderland Soccer League has been able to fill vacancies on its board with Victor Sousa taking over as president.

Chris Faragher will serve as a vice-president for the men's division while Amy Wilson-Hand takes on similar duties for the women.



The Rainy River Voyaguers women's softball team went 2-and-4 to open its season on the weekend.

The Voyageurs scored wins over Hibbing and Vermilion in games played indoors at the Irish Dome in Minneapolis, but suffered loses to Dakota College-Bottineau, Anoka-Ramsay, Minnesota West and Vermilion.

The women host Fond Du Lac today at 3 p.m.




The field for this month's strongman competition in Fort Frances is beginning to take shape.

Nine participants have signed up so.

The include Jose Plante, the 2008 Ontario Strongest Man, Minnesota's 2010 Strongest Man Joel Dircks and Luke Skaarup of Fort Frances whose coming off a season opening win in Winnipeg.

The event will be held April 29 as part of the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce home show.
