Local Sports For Monday June 3

The hardware has been handed out in the Borderland Women's Indoor Soccer League.

Claire Hyatt of Boston Pizza and Heather Wright of Wright Physiotherapy were MVP winners.

Shannon King of Fit Lifestyles and Conditioning was named most sportsmanlike while the team award was given to Wright Physiotherapy.


Jessica Wilson of  Fit Lifestyles & Conditioning won best defensive player.


Mandy Armstrong of Cater 2 U and Avery Wilson-Hands of Boston Pizza were co-winners of the Hustler Award.

The Golden Boot Award as top scorer was won by Jess Caul of Peters Plumbing and Heating.

Laura Cridland earned most improved honours.




A new season of the Borderland Soccer League kicks off tonight.

The men open play with Manitou Forest Products up against Pharmasave and International Travel Services taking on the newly formed Senior Pharmasave squad.

The woman begin play tomorrow



For the first time in several years, ladies fastball gets underway in the Rainy River district.

The new league features five teams with four opening the season tonight.

The Couchiching Raiders will host Red Gut while the Linx is up against the Sabaskong Cougars.

The other team in the league is the Fort Frances Her-i-canes.



Falls High School girls track team is this year's Section 7A champions.

They finished atop the standings during the meet held Friday in Duluth.

Breanna Shofner qualified for this week's State championships by winning the 100 metres.

Other winners were Hailey Fentem in the 100 metre hurdles and Savannah Olson in discuss.

On the boys side, Austin Ruport in discuss had the team's best showing with a third.
