Local Sports For Tuesday June 11

Fort Frances will play host to the first ever branch championship for midget AA teams.

The event will take place in early next March.

Fort Frances Minor Hockey put forward a bid after Hockey Northwestern Ontario announced plans earlier this year to set up championship tournaments for teams at the AA level.

Dryden Minor Hockey will host the peewee and bantam championships.



Two individuals from the Rainy River district have been recognized for the volunteerism in minor hockey.

Stuart McIvor of Fort Frances has received the most deserving official award from Hockey Northwestern Ontario.

Joanne Spencer of Atikokan was handed the Tom Pashby trainer award.



Red Gut won its second straight in the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League, beating the Sabaskong Cougars 20-8.

Karen Croteau pitched for the win.

The Fort Frances Her-icanes beat the Lynx 15-5.

A pair of identified ties in the Borderland Soccer League last night.

La Place Rendez Vous Voyageurs tied Pharmasave 1-1 with Tyler Ruppenstein of the Voyageurs and Kevin Metke of Pharmasave providing the goals.

Manitou Forest Products played International Travel Services to a 1-1 draw with the goals coming from Jameson Shortreed of Manitou and Gavin Moorhouse with the Travelers.
