Local Sports For Wednesday June 12

Beef's Warriors remain atop the standings of the Rainy River District Fastball League.

The Warriors defeated Northwest Bay 7-4 to remain a half game up on the Big Grassy Braves who also won, pounding Sight and Sound 25-5.

The Braves combined for six home runs in the game with Roger Allan batting 3.

Elsewhere, Big Island defeated Stratton 12-5

Rainy River out scored Couchiching 8-2

Barwick edged Manitou 4-3

The Dawson Tigers beat the Sabaskong Lakers 12-5.



International Falls split a pair with Eveleth-Gilbert  in under 14 girls softball, winning the opener 10-4, but dropping a 10-7 game in the second.



Courtney Roach scored twice as Taggs Source for Sports doubled up Al's Racquet Stringing 4-2 in a lone game played in the women's division of the Borderland Soccer League.



Fort Fracnes High School's Athletic department has handed out the hardware to its top athletes.

Brandon Sinclair, who took top honours in senior boys volleyball and a co-winner in boys soccer, was named male athlete of the year

Jessica Caul, a winner of the Struchan Gilson award in girls soccer was selected the female athlete of the year.

Rookies of the year were Taylor Whitehead and Claire Hyatt
