Local Sports for Monday November 29

Raymond Roy's Fort Frances rink had its run at the Dominion Curling Club Championship end with an 8-4 loss to Alberta in a tie-breaker.

Roy's team, representing Northern Ontario, finished the round-robin in a tie for second in its pool, after winning its final game Saturday afternoon to force the tiebreaker.



Tirzah Keffer lost out on her bid for a spot to the Northern Ontario provincial junior curling championship.

Her Fort Frances rink finished fourth at a qualifying event in Thunder Bay on the weekend with a 2-3 record.




Both the Rainy River Owls senior girls basketball and Atikokan Voyageurs senior boys volleyball teams come home following their play at their respective Ontario high School championships.

The Voyageurs lost all four of their matches.

The Owls had their weekend end in a 33-25 loss to a Toronto area school in the consolation quarter-finals.




The Fort Frances Lakers beat Duluth 6-4 to move back in to first in the SIJHL.

Ryan Wildman and Jon Sinclair each scored twice.

Jaret Leclair and Conner Hady had the others Laker goals.




The Dynamic Home Hurricanes earned silver at a girls hockey tournament in Warroad.

The Fort Frances team beat Warroad, Grand Forks and Roseau before losing to another Roseau team in the final.




The Fort Frances Snipers finished second at the Kenora Thistles Double A Atom Challenge Cup this weekend in Kenora.

Snipers lost to Springfield, Manitoba in the final.




The Atikokan Voyageurs black team beat its white counter-part to capture the Atikokan Peewee Hockey tournament on the weekend.

The Blacks scored a 6-3 win in the final.
