Local Sports for Monday July 25

Another driver at Emo Speedway won for the first time.

Carlee Bosma of Emo passed Don Bowman of Bemidji in the street stock feature and held on for the win.

Gavin Paull won his seventh straight feature in the modified class while Matt Depeiro took checkers in the midwest modified division.



Go-karting at Emo Friday saw Jyllian Westover win a heat and the feature in the novice class.

In the advanced class, Tanner Williamson won both heat races, but Wyatt Boyum held on for the feature win.



Luke Skaarup of Fort Frances won three of four events, and finished third in another, to take the heavyweight division at a strongman competition in Thunder Bay.

His brother Dan Skaarup of Thunder Bay swept events to win the lightweight division.



Members of the Borderland Roller Derby League were over matched in a bout Saturday, losing to a team in Thunder Bay.

The Fort Freakshow will prepare for a rematch at home in September.




Richard Rud and Jon Austin of International Falls and Glenn Leroux and Trevor Zimak of Thunder Bay won the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.

Other winners were Tony Holenko and Larry Foss of International Falls in the Lund Division that featured teams 11th to 54th after two days.

2010 championships Dorian Lundholm of Fort Frances and Bill Wilcox of Texas won the Mercury Division with teams 55th to 95th.
