Local Sports for Thursday July 14

Laureen Peters had the season's first four-goal game as Boston Pizza defeated Taggs Source for Sports 8-3 in a Borderland Soccer League women's game.

Melanie Hyatt and Allison Brown each scored twice for Boston.

Courtney Roach had a pair for Taggs in a losing cause.

Elsewhere, the Rendez-Vous Voyageurs beat Al's Racquet Stringing 2-1.



The Superior International Junior Hockey League has added another American team to its lineup.

The Iron Range Steel will based in the Hibbing-Virginia area.

Among its ownership group is Steve Chelios, brother of long-time NHLer Chris Chelios.



Steve Arpin's return to the dirt track ended in disappointment at Deer Creek Speedway near Rochester, Minnesota.

The Fort Frances native pulled out of a 50-lap feature after just 19 laps.

He had placed 5th in a heat and 3rd in a B-main to reach the feature.
