Local Sports for Monday January 16


Jordan Larson's goal, two minutes left in the third period, lifted the Fort Frances Lakers to a 5-4 victory over the Duluth Clydesdales.

Steve Terry and Byron Katapaytuk each scored twice.

Tanner Hamilton made 30 stops for the win.

Fort Frances Lakers had their seven game winning streak snapped Saturday night in a 2-0 loss to Wisconsin.




Rainy River Voyaguers women's hockey team lost its first game of the year, a 1-0 decision to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks Saturday.

Friday, the Voyagers defeated them 2-1.




Ryan Windigo scored twice as the Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team defeated Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos Friday 5-1

Robbie Rae, Bradon Keast and Hunter Leishman also found the twine for the Muskies.




Fort Frances Firemen and Atikokan reached the quarterfinals of the pee-wee division at the Robin's tournament in Thunder Bay.

Atikokan finished sixth in Novice B.

Atikokan teams also competed in the Atom A and Bantam A divisions, but failed to make the playoff rounds.




International Falls Broncos girls hockey team defeated Park Rapids and Brainard this weekend by identical 5-2 scores.

The boys team beat Greenway Friday 5-2.






Fort Frances Muskies junior girls volleyball team split squads to earn gold at a tournament in Thunder Bay.

The Gold squad defeated Rainy River 14-25, 25-23 and 15-13 for the win.

The Black team placed 6th overall.

The Muskies also finished third on the senior side of the same tournament, beating Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos.



Lenea Rash netted 34 points as the Rainy River Voyageurs women's basketball team defeated Itasca Saturday 72-61.

The men's team lost 90-66..
