Local Sports for Tuesday January 24u


Former Ontario champions Sherry Middaugh and Jenna Hanna were among first draw winners at the provincial women's curling championship opening last night in Kenora.

Thunder Bay's Krista McCarville lost her opening game, 7-4 to Rachel Homan of Ottawa.

Second draw action goes this afternoon.




Girls hockey from last night saw the Calder Legal Eagles edge the Rolling Lake Lighting 2-1 in an atom division game.

Sydney Korkola and Kendra Calder scored for the Eagles

Meghan Bruyere replied for the Lightning.

Annalise Hayes recorded the hat trick in the Lakewood Tire Eagles 3-0 win over Super 8 in the pee wee division.


In weekend action for girls hockey teams, the Rolling Lake Lightning scored a pair of wins over Dryden, 9-2 and 3-2

Meghan Bruyere had 7 goals in the opening game.

Super 8 captured bronze at a pee wee tournament in Dryden while Kaemingh Esso lost in the bronze medal game in Kenora.

Lakewood Tire won that tournament.



International Falls Broncos girls basketball team won its third straight, defeating Lake of the Woods 65-58
