Local Sports For Monday September 17


Fort Frances Lakers dropped a pair of exhibition matches against the Minnesota Wilderness, 5-3 on Saturday and 6-1 yesterday.

Mason Meyer had the lone goal in yesterday's game in Cloquet.

Merritt Rysavy, Alex Bruess and Joel Bogacki had the goals in Saturday's home game with the defending SIJHL champions.




Fort Frances Muskies junior boys volleyball team won the consolation side of a tournament in Kenora, beating Dryden Gold 3 games to 2.

Muskies went 6 and 4 in pool play.




Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team defeated Fond Du Lac Friday in 3 straight games, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-16.



Fort Frances Muskies senior girls basketball team went 2 and 2 at a tournament in Thunder Bay, beating Westgate and Dryden with its loses to Timmins and Kenora.





Falls High School girls swim team finished 5th overall at a meeting in Hibbing Saturday, failing to crack the podium in any of the events




Emo anglers Wayne Howard and Dean Howard captured the Crow Lake Classic Bass tournament in Nestor Falls.

Their two-day catch of almost 31 lbs was about 3.5 lbs more than second place team of Murphy Paypompee and Howard Kabestra of Whitefish Bay First Nation.




Final points race of the Borderland Go-Karting club yesterday saw Tanner Williamson win the feature in the advanced class.

Jyllian Westover won her first of the year in the novice division.

Peyton Kinnear took checkers in the beginner class.




Several strong finishes by area runners at an event in Walker, Minnesota.

Jennifer Erickson of International Falls was 20th overall in the half marathon, fourth among females.

Fort Frances runners Shelly Gustafson and Dr. Lorena Jenks were first in their age brackets.

In the 10 K run, 13-year-old Lexi Erikson of International Falls finished 13th, 3rd among all women.
