Local Sports For Monday September 24


Falls High School girls swim team finished fifth at the Shiverland Invitation in Hibbing on Saturday.

Carolann Stone and Abby Kostiuk picked up wins in the 100 yard backstroke while Emily Saari captured the 100 yard breaststroke.

Falls relay teams claimed two wins.




Some strong performances by runners from this area at the Miles with the Giant Marathon in Thunder Bay.

Shelly Gustafson of Fort Frances was 19th among females and 3rd in her age group in the half marathon.

Doug Coutts of Atikokan was 24th among the men in the half marathon while Jeffrery Gustafson of Fort Frances was 41st, good for 2nd in the under 20 category.

Sheldon Haw of Atikokan was 1st among men in the half marathon walk.

Ilka Milne and Kendall Richardson of Fort Frances were both among the top 20 women to finish the 10 K run while Gaydonna Baker of Emo was tops in the 60 to 69 division.



Emo's Luke Judson scored a hat-trick in Lakehead University's 6-2 win over Ottawa on Saturday.




Rainy River's Brenley Anderson had a goal and two assists in three games for the Manitoba Bisons at a tournament in Regina.

Anderson played for the Rainy River Voyageurs last season.




Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team was swept in three game Saturday by Central Lakes, 11-25, 14-25 and 7-25.
