Local Sports For Monday April 22

Fort Frances Lakers have staved off elimination in the SIJHL final with a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Wilderness in Cloquet.

Wilderness still lead 3-games to 2 with game six going tonight at the 52 Canadians Rink.

Owen Stauber, Kevin Kurm and Jordan Christianson scored for the Lakers.



An Atom AAA hockey team, comprised of twelve players from Fort Frances, 3 from Dryden and one from Emo captured a tournament in Thunder bay on the weekend.

The team went 3-1-1 in taking the 10 year old division.



Steve Aprin was fourth in his first rally cross final, taking place yesterday as part of the Brazil X-games.

The Fort Frances native was 6 seconds back of the winner, Scott Speed, another first time competitor to the event.

Arpin qualified for the final after finishing second in his heat.



Falls High School track teams competed at the Beaver Relays meet at Bemidji State University where the girls team placed 5th and the boys

Lexi Erickson captured the Girls 3200 Meter Run.

Third place finishers were recorded by Maddy Filipiak in girls long jump, Savanah Olson in girls shot put and Lexi Owen in the Girls 200 Meter Hurdles.



Paragan was the winner of the Struchan Gilson Memorial Volleyball tournament played in Fort Frances on the weekend.

They beat Kiss My Pass in the final.

The Real Housewives of Fort Frances took third.

Stephanie Kitchkeesick of Paragon was named most valuable player.



Weather also a problem for the Borderland Racing Association.

It's pushing its schedule back a week with a workbee planned at the Emo track on May 11, practice on May 18 and the season opener taking place on May 25.
