Local Sports For Thursday May 2

A pair of high school badminton players open play today at the all-Ontario championships in Chatham.

Skylar Arpin of Rainy River High School is competing in girls singles.

Taylor Whitehead of Fort Frances High is challenging for the boys title.



Minnesota Wilderness earned a 4-0 victory over Sault Ste. Marie to record their first win at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup in North Bay.

The Wilderness wrap up the round-robin portion of the tournament this afternoon with a game against St. Michael's.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's softball team took a pair from Central Lakes, winning 14-1 and 7-5.


Update: Taylor Whitehead of Fort Frances has won his first match at the all-Ontario high school badminton championships in Chatham.

He defeated an opponent from a Toronto area school by scores of 22-20, 18-21 and 23-21.

Rainy River High School's Skylar Arpin faces an opponent from the Toronto area in her first match in singles singles.

Taylor Whitehead of Fort Frances High plays against a challenge from Oakville to open the boys singles.
