Local Sports for Friday September 10

Falls High School girls swim team won its first head-to-head competitions, beating Eveleth-Gilbert by four points.

Winners included Morgan Bruess in the 100 Backstroke, Paige Herzig in the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 yard freestyle relay team.



Falls High School girls volleyball team fell in 3-sets to Cherry, losing 20-25, 19-25 and 16-25.

Sydney Gordon and MacKenzie Raboin finished the game with 15 digs each.



The Falls High School varsity boys cross country team finished second at the Roseau invitational.

Reggie Gordon had the team's fastest time finishing ninth.

The varsity girls team was fourth at the same meet, led by a 14th place finish by Amber Harms.

On the junior side, Ian Ducharme led the Broncos with a 4th place finish on the boys side while Shelby Wolden was second in the girl's race.



Fort Frances Lakers will look for another pre-season win as they travel to Sioux Lookout tonight.

The Lakers have not lost in three exhibition games played so far.



Fort Frances Muskies open their season in the Winnipeg High School Football league with a home game against Elmwood.

Game time is 3 p.m. at Muskie Field.

The Falls High School football team travels to Virginia.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team is back on the road in Grand Rapids to play Itasca.

The Voyageur's are 2-0 in league play this season, following a 4-set win over winless Northland Wednesday night.

Following their game, the women will compete in tournament play in Grand Rapids Saturday.


Steve Arpin will be sporting some new team colours at this weekend's ARCA series race in Toledo.

The Fort Frances native and his crew will be wearing pink and sporting a pink car in support of Breast Cancer Research.

Arpin has also launched an eBay charity auction to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.



The final weekend of racing at Emo Speedway takes place tomorrow.

Racing will begin at 4 p.m.
