Local Sports for Wednesday September 8

Fort Frances Lakers are back on the ice tonight for another exhibition game with the Dryden Ice Dogs.

The Lakers beat the Dogs in overtime last week in Dryden.

Game time at the Ice for Kids Arena is 7:30 p.m.




The Falls High School Girls volleyball team ran its record to 3-1 with a 3-set win over Cook by scores of 27-25, 25-17 and 25-13.

MacKenzie Raboin led the way with 36 digs.

Sydney Gordon had 25 digs and 10 kills.

Brooke Graves had four service aces.



Falls High School varisty girls swim and dive team was out-scored in head to head competition by Grand Rapids.

Morgan Bruess in the 100 backstroke, Page Herzig in the 100 breaststroke along with the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relay teams earned wins for the varsity squad.

The junior varsity team was also beat by Grand Rapids.

Individuals wins were picked up by Jayde Hall in the 100 yard backstroke and Jenna Anderson in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The junior 400 yard freestyle relay team also captured its event.



Ray Smith and Bruce Black of Northwest Bay were this year's winners of the Labour Day Mixed Horseshoe tournament at Pither's Point Park.

They beat out Darwin Johnson of International Falls and Len Noonan of Fort Frances.

Sandy Larson of International Falls and Gordon "Chips" Calder of Fort Frances were third.

Fort Frances Legion, Sunset Country Metis and Labatt's helped out with the event.
