Local Sports for Thursday September 16

Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team dropped its second straight MCAC northern division game, falling last night to Hibbing in three sets.

Haylee Gates had 8 kills while Danika Stelton had 20 assists for the Voyageurs who travel to Ely toinght to take on the Vermilion Ironwomen.



Registration for the Fort Frances Vipers youth volleyball league takes place at the Fort Frances High School today.

The league is open to boys and girls in grades six through to 9.

Registration goes from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. with practices held every Monday night.



Registration is also being accepted for the Frog Creek Open.

It happens this Saturday at Kitchen Creek Golf Course.

Cost is $50.00 with registration made by calling the golf course.



The Rainy River Owls earn a lone win in junior girls basketball to open their season in the NORWOSSA "A" division last night.

The Owls defeated Kenora's Thomas Aquanas Saints 23-16.

Shauna Moen led with 9 points with Myan Miller chipping in 6.

The Owl's senior girls basketball team narrowly lost its game, 52-50.

The junior and senior boys volleyball teams were both swept in three sets in their games with the Saints.
