Local Sports for Friday September 17

Atikokan Voyageurs court teams swept games played against Pelican Falls.

The senior girls basketball team scored a 38-13 victory.

Both the senior and juniors boys volleyball teams both beat Pelican Falls in three straight sets.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team got back into the win column with a 3-set win over Vermilion last night.

Haylee Gates led with 7 kills and 4 service aces.

Danika Stelton added 6 kills, 3 aces, and 20 set assists.



International Falls Broncos girls volleyball team fell to Greenway in 5-sets.

Broncos led 2-1 before dropping the final two sets.

Sydney Gordon 22 kills, Mackenzie Raboin 57 digs and Katie Graves six ace services



Broncos cross country running teams competed at a meet in Eveleth.

The varsity girls team placed second on the strength of Amber Harms seventh place finish.

Ian Ducharme finished sixth in helping the junior high boys to a third place finish

The varsity boys also finished third with John Sobcznyski putting in the best time in eleveth.



Broncos girls swim team won seven of eleven events to outscore Babbitt-Embarrass in head-to-head competition.

Paige Herzig and Maggie West both picked up four wins, two individual and two as members of the 200 yard medley and 200 free style relay teams.

The 400 free relay teams also earned a victory.


Fort Frances Lakers open their second season in the SIJHL tonight with a game against the the Fort William North Stars.

Coach Wayne Strachan says the team is looking good heading into the game.

Game time at the Ice for Kids Arena is 7:30 p.m.
