Local Sports for Monday September 13

Fort Frances ended their pre-season with a 5-2 win over the Wisconsin Wildermess at the Ice for Kids arena last night.

Blake Boaz, Jon Sinclair, Henry Gutierrez, Phil Jennrich and Byron Katapaytuk scored for the Lakers.

Derrick Peitsh and Tyler Ampe shared the win in net.



An accident early in the race hurt Steve Arpin's chance for a second straight ARCA series win at Toledo.

He ended the race sixteenth, 19 laps down.



Weather washed out the final scheduled races at Emo Speedway.

They will not be rescheduled.



The first ever Roller Derby game in Fort Frances saw the home team come out on the losing end against a much more experienced Winnipeg team Saturday night.

Winnipeg outscored Fort Frances 186-76.

The game was attended by about three-hundred people.




In high school football, the Fort Frances Muskies fell 26-8 in their home opener to Elmwood Friday.

The International Falls Broncos were beaten 43-14 by Virginia.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team placed third at a tournament in Grand Rapids, beating St. Cloud Tech College in two-sets for the win.

The Voyageurs beat out Vermilion and Northland in round-robin play before losing to Anoka-Ramsey.

In league action Friday, the Voyageurs lost to Itasca by scores of 22-25, 16-25 and 14-25.



Alex McDonald shot a round of 76 to lead the Fort Frances High School boys golf team to a second place finish at a NORWOSSA tournament Friday in Sioux Lookout.

McDonald placed second, 7 strokes back of the winner.

The Muskies were a combined 11 strokes behind Dryden.
