Local Sports for Monday May 17.

Kyle Gavel, Jamie Davis, Ken Anderson and Ron Westover have emerged as the early points leaders following the season opener at Emo Speedway Saturday.

Anderson won the feature in the Midwest modified division while Westover claimed checkers in the street stock feature.

Gavel beat out Davis for the Modified win, but both driver finished with the same amount of points by virtue of Davis' win in the heat race.



Glenn Walls of International Falls led all high school golfers at the Northern Invitational at Giant Ridge on the weekend, shooting a two round score of 147.

Falls High School finished second behind Hermantown at the event.

Fort Frances High School, also competed, placed nineteenth out of 21 schools.



Alicia Hendrickson of International Falls captured both the pole vault and long jump at a meet in Hibbing.

She also placed third in the triple jump.

The team placed sixth overall.



Fort Frances Muskies girls soccer team finished third at a weekend tournament hosted by the team.

Muskies lost all three games played in the round-robin, but defeated Hanover 5-3 for third.

Jessica Caul and Nicole Mueller got two goals each with Courtney Roach adding the other.



International Falls Broncos boys baseball team won a pair of games on Saturday, beating Babbit-Embarass 14-1 in five innings and Ely 5-2.

They play Greenway today.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's softball team had its season come to an end at the Regional softball championship on the weekend.

Voyageurs won their opening game 7-5, but losses to Itasca and Central Lakes knocked them out of contention.
