Local Sports for Thursday May 6

The Rainy River District Fastball League opens its 2010 season today with six games and three new teams.

Sight and Sound hosts Big Grassy Lightning - Rainy River is at Stratton - Sabaskong travels to Big Island.

Big Grassy Braves, one of the new clubs is home to Barwick while newcomers Manitou and Northwest Bay meet.



Fort Frances Muskies boys soccer team is unbeaten following the first NORWOSSA tournament.

Yesterday the Muskies beat Dryden 2-1 on goals from Jameson Shortreed and Colton Spicer - then tied Kenora's Beaver Brae 2-2.

Andrew Gobeil and Davis Smith scored in that game.

In girls place, the Muskies girls team tied Dryden 0-0 in their opener.

The score from their game against Kenora is not immediately available.



Fort Frances Lakers will host a golf tournament this Saturday at Heron Landing.

Individuals or teams for the four-person best ball event can register by calling the club house.
