Local Sports for Wednesday May 26

The Barwick Blue Knights maintained their hold of first place in the Rainy River District Fastball League last night with a 5-4 win over Sight and Sound.

The Knights are a half-game up on Sabaskong who blanked Rainy River 1-0 in extra innings.

Elsewhere, Chris Jack hit a pair of home runs while Jeff Morrison added another as the Big Grassy Lightning pounded Manitou 18-5.

The Big Grassy Braves edged Stratton 9-8

And Northwest Bay defeated Big Island 11-2.



Championships in NORWOSSA soccer take place today in Dryden.

Fort Frances Muskies girls team will try to advance to this afternoon's final with a win this morning against Dryden.

The boys, who earned a bye to their final by virtue of a first place finish in the regular season, await the winner between Kenora and Dryden.



In high school action in the Falls, the Broncos boys baseball team blanked Littlefork-Big Falls 10-0 in a game that end after six innings.

The Broncos' girls softball team earned their way into the section 7-AA championship with a 5-2 win over Duluth-Marshall, but were quickly ousted in the quarter-finals in a 5-0 loss to Hermantown.

Maggie West and Kelly Blair finished in a three-way tie for third to help the Falls girls' golf team to a third place overall finish an Section 7-AA event at the Quarry at Giant Ridge.



Further to a story we ran yesterday regarding a number of local runners competing in Fargo, North Dakota.

Missy Nelson was also competing in the Marathon event, finishing in just over 4 hours 21 minutes.
