Local Sports for Wednesday May 5

Anika Alexander has another opportunity to continue play at the Yonex junior badminton championships in Toronto.

Today, she'll team with her mixed doubles partner Cam Jensen for a game on the consolation side against a Quebec duo.

Yesterday, Alexander was eliminated from the consolation side of singles play and doubles with teammate Rachel Livergant of Alberta.



Three members of the Fort Frances Muskies badminton team begin play today at the provincial high school badminton championships in Stratford.

Kimika Alexander and Chelsea Carlson compete in girls doubles while Rory Bagacki looks for the title in boys singles.


The NORWOSSA soccer season kicks off today with games at Fort Frances High School.

The Muskies girls start it off with a game against Dryden at 9:30 a.m. followed by the boys and Eagles at 11 a.m.

Games against Kenora go later this afternoon.



Two members of the Rainy River Voyageur's women's softball club walked away with the weekly player honours from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference.

Danika Stelton of International Falls was named Northern Division's pitcher of the week after going 3-0 for the Voyageurs last week.

Brandon, Manitoba's Cally Tinkess was co-winner of the player of the week award after batting .733 at the plate.
