Local Sports for Friday January 21



Blake Boaz's goal midway through the second period stood as the winner as the Fort Frances Lakers slipped past the Sioux Lookout Flyers 3-1 last night in Sioux Lookout.


Jon Sinclair and Jaret Leclair with an empty netter added the others.

The win moves the Lakers within two points of league-leading Wisconsin.









Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team won its second straight with a 4-0 blanking of the Lake of the Woods Bears in Baudette.

Danielle Jean, Sydney Jones, Shelby Tymkin and Shae-Lynn Smith provided the scoring.

Dana Cridland got the shut-out in net.









Christian Kittelson's goal 19 seconds left in the third gave the International Falls Broncos boys hockey team a 2-1 win over Virgina.

Mason Meyer had the other Broncos goal.



Fort Frances Canadians midget hockey team is on the road this weekend at the Dakota Premier Classic in Brookings, South Dakota.


The Canadians first game is tonight against the Huron All-Stars.







Two Rainy River district teams are in Thunder Bay seeking the right to play in next month's senior men's provincial curling championship in Fort Frances.


Tim Nordin, fresh off his win at a provincial men's curling qualifying event in Kenora last weekend, and Bryan Bonot will skip rinks at the qualifying event this weekend.


Top two teams advance to the Fort Frances event.








International Falls Broncos girls hockey team is in Bemidji.
