Local Sports for Friday January 7


A five-goal performance from Jillian Langtry sparked the Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team to a 9-5 win over John Sauve High School in the opener of the Piper Classic tournament in Winnipeg.

Katie Sinclair and Shelby Tymkin rounded out the Muskies scoring with two each.

Dana Cridland got the win in net.

Muskies play St. Mary's High School this afternoon.



The Muskies court teams kicked off the new year with a split of NORWOSSA games played in Dryden against the Eagles.

The Senior boys basketball team defeated Dryden 59-30 with Justin Anderson leading the way with 20 points.

The juniors fell 40-21.

In volleyball, the junior girls team won in five sets while the seniors lost in three.

The volleyball teams are in Kenora today for tournament play.



At Falls High School, the Broncos boys hockey team defeated Eveleth-Gilbert 4-2.

Christen Kittleson with a pair, Alex Bruess and Joel Skirton provided the scoring.

The Bronco girls basketball scored a 76-43 victory over Virginia.

Jenna Vergel led with 18 points.
