Local Sports for Wednesday January 12


The Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team fell 5-4 to the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints of Kenora at the Ice for Kids Arena yesterday.

Jillian Langtry, Katie Sinclair, Shae Lynn Smith and Taylor Dixon getting the goals for the Muskies.

Five of their 7 NORWOSSA losses this season have been by one goal.



In senior hockey, the Fort Frances Thunder Hawks doubled up the Kenora Thistles 10-5.



Glenn Walls needed to stop just 12 shots as the International Falls Broncos boys hockey team blanked Greenway 2-0.

Dominic Casareto and Beau Herzig getting the goals.



Fort Frances Lakers made a couple of roster moves yesterday.

The Lakers acquired forward Dane Morin from the Duluth Clydesdales for a player to be named later.

Morin, who had 16 points in 30 games with Duluth this season, is to be in tonight's lineup against Sioux Lookout.

Meantime, the Lakers also released forward Davis Smith.




Fort Frances Muskies senior boys basketball team defeated Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos 69-38.

Justin Anderson and Josh Strain led with 15 points each.

The junior boys lost 35-25.




The International Falls Broncos girls basketball team lost 59-52 to Warroad.

Hanna Heibel led all Broncos with 16 points.



Steve Arpin's race season is underway.

Arpin is involved in testing at Daytona in advance of the ARCA series race in February.

Yesterday, he was second fastest.
