Local Sports for Wednesday February 23

Fort Frances Muskies senior boys basketball team captured the NorWossa title in Kenora yesterday with a 50-32 win over the host Beaver Brae Broncos.

The team will now play the Superior Collegiate Griffins for the NWossa championship this weekend in Thunder Bay.

The Muskies senior girls volleyball team also reached the finals but was defeated by Dryden in four sets.

The junior boys basketball team and junior girls volleyball team were eliminated in semi-final action.



Shawn Filipiak had 17 points in the International Falls Broncos boys basketball team's 63-45 win over Orr.

The girls team lost to Orr 66-61.



A five-goal performance from Jillian Langtry paced the Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team to a 5-1 win over the Dryden Eagles last night at the 52 Canadians Rink.

The two teams will meet in the opening round of the NorWossa playoffs with game one Friday in Dryden.



Fort Frances Lakers gave up three-goals in the third to fall 5-4 to the visiting Dryden Ice Dogs last night at the Ice for Kids Arena.

Blake Boaz with a pair, Ryan Wilman and Tyler Stevenson scored for the home side who wind out their regular season in Sioux Lookout tomorrow night.

Boaz, meantime, was named SIJHL defensive player of the year.
