Local Sports for Friday February 18

A two-goal performance from Tyler Stevenson paced the Fort Frances Lakers to a 3-2 win over the Thunder Bay North Stars at the Ice for Kids Arena last night.

The win gives the Lakers a five-point bulge on the Stars in the battle for second place.

Meantime, Stevenson has been named the SIJHL's most sportsmanlike player.

The league's leading goal score has just 17 penalty minutes in 51 games.

Poor weather and road conditions in the Kenora area has forced the cancellation of today's NorWOSSA double A court sports finals.

The games will be rescheduled to another day.

Other High School action today sees the Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team hosting the International Falls Broncos - 7:15 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The Broncos boys basketball team is up against Aitkin in a game being played in Virginia.

Ten atom teams are expected for a weekend tournament hosted by the Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association.

Play begins at 10 a.m. this morning with games running at the Emo-LaVallee Arena until Sunday.

Atikokan's Hannah Bazinet is among just three girls rinks competing at a northern Ontario Bantam curling inter-regional event in Sioux Lookout this weekend.

Two will earn berths to a provincial event in Englehart next month.
