Local Sports for Wednesday February 9



Tim Nordin helped his own cause with a pair of wins yesterday at the Northern Ontario provincial men's curling championship in Thunder Bay.

His Stratton rink defeated North Bay's Dustin Montpellier 6-3 in an afternoon draw then held on for a 6-5 win over Robbie Gordon of Sudbury.

Today, Nordin faces unbeaten Joe Scharf of Thunder Bay this morning and David McInniss of Englehart this afternoon.




Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team was edged 4-3 by St. Thomas Aquinas last night in Kenora.

Jillian Langtry, Ericka Tymkin and Hailey Clendenning scored for the Muskies.



Fort Frances Muskies court teams earned a single win out of games played in Dryden yesterday.
The Senior boys basketball team rolled to a 53-28 decision over the Eagles.

Josh Strain with 13 points and Craig Legg with 10 lead the way for the Muskies.

The junior boys team lost 53-30.

In volleyball, the senior girls team was ousted in three sets while the juniors lost in four.

The teams host Kenora today.



Shawn Filipiak drained 21 points, but the International Falls Broncos boys basketball team fell to Virginia 70-54.



On the schedule today, the Rainy River Voyageurs men's basketball team is home to Hibbing - 7 p.m. at the College.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team is in Kenora.

Fort Frances Lakers host the Dryden Ice Dogs - 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
