Local Sports for Wednesday February 16

Several members of the Fort Frances Lakers are among the finalists for this years SIJHL awards.

Bryon Katapaytuk is up for the league's MVP award.

Tyler Ampe is a finalist for the Top goaltender award.

Blake Boaz has been nominated for the Best Defensive Forward.

Jaret Leclair is among the Most Improved Player finalists.

Tyler Stevenson is a finalist for the Most Sportsmanlike Player award.

And Wayne Strachan is up for Coach of the Year.

The winners at to be announced over the next few weeks.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team lost 3-2 in a shoot out to Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos last night at the Ice for Kids Arena.

The Muskies still earned a single point which gives them a lock on first place in the NORWOSSA standings.

They'll face Red Lake in the playoffs next week.



International Falls Broncos girls hockey team's season has come to an end with a 3-2 overtime loss to Chisago Lakes in the Section 7A semi-finals.

Amy Auran had both goals for the Broncos.

In Roseau, the Broncos boys hockey team fell 5-2 to the Rams.

Joel Skirten and Brett Musich provided the scoring.

Their playoffs begin next week.

The Broncos boys basketball team defeated Mountain-Iron Buhl 74-25.
