Local Sports For Friday January 11

Fort Frances Muskies senior girls volleyball earned five out of a possible six points in the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball league last night.

It's their first games since teachers withdrew from extra-curricular activities in early December.

The Muskies have joined the League until the labour dispute is resolved.

In other action, I'd Hit That and Scare Hitless had the best night earning perfect scores from their wins last night.



Regional playdowns in bantam curling begin today in Stratton for a change to qualify for the Northern Ontario provincial event next month in Longlac.

Four boys and four girls teams are competing with play beginning at noon.




The Northern Ontario Regional men's qualifier is also taking place in Thunder Bay.

No teams from the Rainy River district are involved, but Trevor Bonot, formerly of Stratton, is skipping a team out of Thunder Bay.

Three teams will move to the provincials next month in Nipigon.



International Falls Broncos girls basketball team dropped its second straight game, 71-55 to Grand Rapids.

They face Hibbing - 7:30 p.m tonight at Falls high School.



Fort Frances Lakers have added to their line-up in advance of a home game tonight against the Minnesota Wilderness.

Forward Tyler Brodersen has been acquired from the Soo Eagles of the North American Hockey League where he registered no points in five games.

Lakers also obtained Simon Desrosier, a defenceman from the Abitibi Eskimos of the Northern Ontario Junior League, where he's notch one goals and 17 assists in 25 games.



A couple of games involving Falls High School teams have been cancelled

A game between the International Falls Broncos boys hockey team and Greenway in Greenway will be played Monday.

As will a girls basketball game between the Broncos and Hibbing, originally schedule for tonight.



There are hockey tournaments on both sides of the border this weekend.

The Memorial Sports Centre is the site of a bantam tournament while a squirt tournament is underway in International Falls.

Several teams are at the Robin's Hockey tournament in Thunder Bay.

This morning, in the Atom A division, Atikokan beat the KC Devils 9-4.

In Peewee A, Fort Frances Lions beat KC Red Wings 5-2.

Green's Predators blanked Volunteer Pool 6-nothing.
