Local Sports For Monday January 21

Connor Turk of Winnipeg was the winner of the Sunset Country Squash Club's Wesley Derkson Open.

He defeated Annis Seid  of Fort Frances in four games.

Other local flight winners included Anthony Andrusco, Alex Bruyere, Jeff Gustafson, Sarah Faragher and Marita Matias.



Matt Langen of Centerville captured the Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard 10 K run.

He finished just under 37 minutes.

Jill Kari of Superior was tops among women.

Lorne Ricard was the top local runner in seventh.

Zach Brintz of Lino Lakes and Allison Hanig of Duluth topped the 5 K.

Over a hundred in the 10 K and 200 in the 5 K competed.



Skaters from the Borderland Skating Club earned a number of medals at a competition in International Falls on the weekend.

First place finishes were put in by Amorin Campbell, Serena Cousineau, Tatum Kielczewski-Ronmark, Paige Eldridge, Reece MacNeil, Erica Lemelin, Olivia Eldridge, Angie Redford and Jamie Spencer.



Fort Frances Canadians AA pee wee team defeated International Falls Broncos 2-1 in overtime yesterday at the Ice for Kids Arena.

Jake Clendenning had the overtime winner, and Ethan Carlson-Jordain scored the other Canadians goal, a shorthanded tally.



International Falls Broncos boys basketball team defeated Two Harbours Saturday 77-53.

The girls team defeated Two Harbours 91-37.
