Local Sports For Wednesday January 9

Fort Frances Lakers earned a single point in a 3-2 shootout lost to Dryden last night at the Ice For Kids Arena.

Jacob Nolan and Jordan Christianson had given the Lakers a 2-0 lead before the Dogs forced extra play with a pair of goals in the third.

The point earned moves the Lakers into sole possession of third.



International Falls Broncos boys hockey team lost 3-2 to Virginia.

On the hardwood, the Broncos boys basketball team defeated Greenway 70-31.

The girls team lost to Warroad 58-47.



Second half of the Borderland Women's Indoor Soccer League inaugural season begins tonight at Fort Frances High School.

Boston Pizza finished the first half in first.

The leagues six teams will continue play through to the end of April before playoffs.



Player of the week honours for members of the Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams.

Jeff Romeus of Florida captured the distinction in the MCAC men's northern division for a second straight week, averaging 25 and a half points and 8 rebounds in two losses on the weekend.

Naila Washington, a freshman from Charlottesville, Virginia, averaged 20 points and 17 and a half rebounds in two games to capture the player of the week in the women's northern division.
