A pair of district teams have earned berths to the northern Ontario provincial bantam curling playdowns.

Chris Silver skipped his Fort Frances rink to a tie for first at a boys regional event held in Stratton to earn a trip to the provincial event in Longlac next month.

Jaron Hoppe of Kenora also advanced.

On the girls side, Atikokan's Hannah Bazinet earned a trip to Sioux Lookout after finishing second behind Sioux Lookout's Jenna Poirior.



Stratton's Trevor Bonot topped the standings of a northern Ontario men's qualifier in Thunder Bay to earn a berth to the provincial men's curling championship next month in Nipigon.

Bonot curls a team out of Thunder Bay.



Colton Spicer had four goals as the Fort Frances Lakers blasted Duluth Saturday 11-6.

Jordan Christianson had an 8 points night with 2 goals and six assists.



Fort Frances bantam double A Canadians earned a bronze medal at a tournament in Kenora, beating Selkirk 4-1 in the third place game.

Graeme Kitt with a pair, Hunter Koles and Scotty Williams provided the scoring.

Faith Chambers earned the win in net.



International Falls Broncos boys hockey team blanked North Shore 9-0 Saturday

Erik Lassila leading the team with a pair of goals and 3 assists.



A couple of area teams reached the playoff rounds of the Robins Minor Hockey tournament in Thunder Bay.

Fort Frances Lions and the Green's Predators both lost in quarter-final action in the pee-wee division

Atikokan Voyageurs went 2 and 2 in pool play in the atom division.


Lakewood Tire Eagles earned silver at a girls hockey tournament in Dryden, losing to a Kenora team 4-1 in the final.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's basketball team earn a sweep on the weekend, beating Central Lakes Saturday 86-70 and Itasca Saturday 64-61.

The men lost to Central Lakers 97-58, but edged out Itasca 68-65.
