Local Sports For Friday January 25

High school sports make a return to Fort Frances High School today.

The girls hockey team kicks off a shortened schedule with a game in Red Lake.

The junior boys basketball team heads to Kenora tomorrow in the first of three mini-tournaments.

Teams are being coached by volunteers, but won't be challenging for NorWOSSA or provincial titles.



Notorious DIG beat Gillons' Insurance Cougars in 3 sets to take the win in a mini-tournament staged by the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League last night.

Its regular season resumes next week.



Fort Frances Lakers on the road this weekend for a pair games starting tonight in Thunder Bay against the North Stars.

Some eyebrows were raised last night when the Stars dressed just 13 skaters for their game against Dryden.

Duluth and Sioux Lookout were both dropped by the league because of player issues.




A busy day for high school teams at Falls High School.

International Falls Broncos boys hockey team is home to Grand Rapids, 7:30 p.m. at Bronco Arena.

The girls basketball team will host Littlefork-Big Falls in a game cancelled from yesterday - 7:15 p.m. at Falls High.

The boys team heads to Aurora to face Mesabi East.



Tracy Horgan's Sudbury rink with Devlin's Jenna Enge and Thunder Bay's Krista McCarville still have a chance to reach the playoff round at the Ontario Scotties in Kitchener-Waterloo.

But there's both gonna need to win both their remaining games and hope for some losses from their competitors.

Both teams are tied for 5th at 3 and 4.
