Local Sports for Tuesday March 8

Isaac Keffer's Fort Frances high school curling team is in a fight for first at the NWOSSA boys curling championship in Terrace Bay.

Keffer defeated Geraldton 8-4 and host Lake Superior High School 10-1 to improve to 3-1.

That leave the team tied for first with Sioux Lookout and Longlac heading into today's final draws.

They play Thunder Bay schools Superior Collegiate and Westgate this morning.

On the girls side, the NWOSSA title has been won by Nipigon-Red Rock.

Tierzah Keffer's Fort Frances rink finished with a 2-2.

They beat Superior Collegiate 10-1 before losing 7-2 to the eventual title winners.

They rounded out the tournament with an 8-3 win over Longlac.




The Rainy River Owls senior girls volleyball team begins play at the all-Ontario high school "A" championships in Belleville today.

The Owls face Windsor and Welland in games this morning.



International Falls Broncos girls basketball team will be playing for a chance to advance to the finals of the Section 7AA champioship in Duluth tonight.

The 15-12 Broncos faces Braham - a team that's lost only twice this season.



Rainy River Voyageurs men's baseball team dropped a double header to St. Cloud Technical and Community to open their Florida trip.

The Voyageurs lost 3-1 in the opener and 10-6 in the night cap.

They face Kings College of Pennyslvian and Ohio's Mount Union today.
