Local Sports for Friday September 9

A five-goal second period helped the Fort Frances Lakers to an 8-4 win over the Sioux Lookout Flyers in a SIJHL exhibition game in Sioux Lookout.

Henry Gutierrez scored twice with singles from Diego Breckenridge, Wayne Folster, Jaret Leclair, Bryon Katapaytuk, Spencer Korum and Davis Smith.

The two teams play again tonight, 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Sport Centre.



Ryan Wildman and Jordan Larson of the Fort Frances Lakers have been selected to try out for Team Canada West that will compete in this year's World Junior A Challenge.

They're among 60 players from across western Canada who will participate in a week-long evaluation camp next week in Penticton.



Falls High School girls cross country run team took first at a meet in Roseau.

Broncos runners took three top ten spots, led by Sydney Raboin in 3rd, Lexi Erickson 6th and Amber Harms in 7th.

The boys team finished third overall.



Falls High School girls volleyball team was defeated in three straight sets by Cherry - 21-25, 11-25 and 21-25.



Football teams at Fort Frances High School and Falls High School have their home openers today.

The Muskies face St. Norbert, 3 p.m. at Muskie field.

The Broncos host Virginia at Bronco Stadium at 7 p.m.
