Local Sports for Monday September 19

Fort Frances Lakers split their weekend home opener in the S-I-J-H-L, winning 4-3 in a shootout Friday against the Thunder Bay North Stars, but dropped a 4-2 decision Saturday to Sioux Lookout.

The Lakers are in Dryden tomorrow.



Falls High School girls swim team placed 6th at a meet Saturday in Hibbing.

The team picked up no medal.



 International Falls Broncos girls volleyball team defeated Duluth-Marsall Friday in four sets, 26-24, 25-15, 12-25 and 25-12.



International Falls Broncos football team was defeated Friday by Proctor 38-16.


Fort Frances Muskies defeated Winnipeg's Tec Voc 14-2.

Harley Mainville scored both of the Muskies touchdown.



Steve Arpin set a new track record in capturing the poll in Friday's NASCAR truck series race at Chicago.

He ended the race in 16th.



Several area runners participated in the Miles to the Giant event in Thunder Bay.

Cindy McKinnon and Jane Wyder of Fort Frances placed fourth and fifth respectively in their age category in the marathon.

Darryl Gannon of Atikokan was 14th overall in the men's half marathon.

Dennis Ogilvie of Emo was 16th.

Holly Armstrong of Atikokan was 14th among the women.
