Fort Frances strongman Luke Skaarup set a new Canadian record in the atlas stone lift to earn a third place finish overall at a strongman competition in Dubreuivlle, Quebec.

Skaarup's lift was 454 pounds.



Fort Frances Lakers swept a pair of exhibition games at the Memorial Sports Centre.

The Lakers first whitewashed Sioux Lookout Friday 10-nothing, then beat Wisconsin yesterday 6-4.

The Lakers are in Wisconsin tonight for the rematch with the Wilderness.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team took 3rd place at a tournament in Itasca.

The Voyageurs defeated Anoka-Ramsey, Mesabi and Gogebic, losing only to Northland.

Friday, the ladies opened play in the MCAC northern division with a 3-set loss to Itasca.



Fort Frances Muskies football team was blanked 36-nothing by St. Norbert in the opener of the Winnipeg High School Football League Friday.

The International Falls Broncos defeated Virgina 40-16 in their home opener Friday.



Motocross racing at Emo has wrapped up for another year.

Bob Leblanc of Thunder Bay was the big winner, taking home titles in the Open, Pro-AM and Over 25 classes.
