Local Sports for Friday February 24


Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team will play Dryden in the NorWossa semi-finals following a 7-1 beating of Red Lake last night.

The Muskies-Eagles series opens tonight in Dryden with game two at the Memorial Sports Centre Sunday at 2:45 p.m.




Mason Meyer scored three times in leading the International Falls Broncos to a 6-1 win over Greenway in the Section 7-A boys hockey championship tournament.

The Broncos now face Hibbing in a semi-final match up in Grand Rapids tomorrow.




Byron Katapaytuk tallied twice and set-up another to help lead the Fort Frances Lakers past Sioux Lookout 4-2  last night.

Jordan Christianson and Merritt Rysavy added the other Laker goals.

Judy LaBelle of Fort Frances split her opening games at the northern Ontario senior women's curling playdown in Kapaskasing.

Her rink opened with a loss to Marian Clark of Thunder Bay 9-5 before rebounding for a 9-6 win over North Bay's Danielle McLeod in a late draw.
