Local Sports for Friday February 3


A tough start for two area bantam curling rinks.

Matthew Armstrong's Stratton rink was shut out 13-nothing by Sudbury's Tanner Horgan in their first game at the bantam boys provincial playdown at the Fort Frances Curling Club.

Armstrong's rink faces Kevin Gravel of Smooth Rock Falls at 9:30 a.m. this morning.


In Longlac, Jessica Haw's Stratton foursome gave up 7 points in the final three ends to fall 9-4 to Leah Hodgson of Sault Ste. Marie in the opener of the bantam girls curling playdown.

Haw plays Krysta Burns of Sudbury this morning.




Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team defeated the Dryden Eagles 4-3.

Jeff Davis, Cole Godbout, Josh Gwinn and Ryan Windigo scoring for the Muskies.

The Muskies girls hockey team resumes play in NORWOSSA tonight for the first time since the middle of January with a game in Dryden.



Fort Frances Muskies senior boys basketball team is in tournament play in Kenora.




International Falls Broncos boys basketball team defeated Warroard 78-72.

The girls team won its second straight, 54-49 over Mesabi East.


The Broncos boys hockey team lost to Hibbing 3-2.

The girls team ended their regular season with a 3-nothing win over Eveleth-Gilbert.





Fort Frances Lakers and Dryden Ice Dogs renew acquaintances at the Ice for Kids Arena tonight.




The Dogs came from behind to win in a shoot out in their last meeting Monday.
