Local Sports for Tuesday February 21

Jordan's Christianson's third period goals stood as the winner as the Fort Frances Lakers ended their road portion of the SIJHL with a 3-1 win over Dryden.




Jacob Barker scored three time as the Emo Canucks defeated the Fort Frances MEC Bulldogs 3-2 to win an Atom A hockey tournment in Emo.

Blake Jones and Adam George replied for the Bulldogs.

Atikokan won the B-side title blanking Kenora 3-0.

And the Gillons Sharks edged the Causeway Cougars 2-1 in an all-Fort Frances C-side final.




Mason Meyer scored 7 minutes into overtime for his second goal of the game as the International Falls Broncos defeated the Fort Frances Muskies in an boys hockey game Friday in Fort Frances.

Both teams now prepare for their respective playoffs this week.




Ontario, featuring Devlin's Jenna Enge, has fallen to a tie for 6th following a pair of losses at the Canadian women's curling championship in Red Deer, Alberta.

B-C's Kelly Scott and defending champion Amber Holland lead with 4 and 1 records.




Sunset County Squash Club held is 25th annual tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre on the weekend.

It's win or hang up the skates for the Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team.

They face Red Lake in Red Lake with the winner to advance to the NORWOSSA semi-finals set for this weekend.



Fort Frances Lakers Jordan Larson is the SIJHL's rookie of the yeaer.

Larson leads all rookies with 34 goals and 68 points, five best overall in the league. 



Fort Frances Thunderhawks has struck first in a two-game series with Kenora to decide home-ice advantage in the regional Allan Cup playdown.

Jordan Davis scored twice while Nick Bydal and Mike English added singles as the Hawks beat the Thistles 4-1 Saturday.

Game two of the series will be played in Kenora March 2.



Fort Frances Canadians Bantam Double-A team won a weekend tournament in Wisconsin Dells beating Norwest Chargers 6-1.

They went undefeated during the tournament.
