Local Sports for Thursday February 9


Stratton's Trevor Bonot split games yesterday at the Northern Ontario men's curling playdown in Sault Ste. Marie.

His foursome now sits tied for third at 5 and 3 after losing to Thunder Bay's Joe Sharf 6-4 in an afternoon draw, and rebounding for a 7-5 win over the Soo's Tim Phillips.

Mike Jakubo of Copper Cliff still leads at 8 and oh.




A couple of podium finishes for Atikokan High School at the NWOSSA high school Nordic ski championships in Marathon yesterday.

Erik Larson won gold in the senior boys division while Kiara Gannon placed second in junior girls.





Fort Frances Lakers came out on the losing end of a 2-1 game in Dryden.

Blake Boaz goal with five seconds left in the third was the Lakers only goal.




Seven players from the Fort Frances area are part of a Northwestern Ontario all-star peewee team beginning play today at a tournament in Brandon.

Ian Tookenay, Hunter Koles, Lauren Vold, Parker Orchard, Noah Loveday, Cole Tymkin, and Brett Hahkala are part of the squad that will later compete for the Ontario title.





Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team hits the road for the first of two games to close out play in NORWOSSA.

The Muskies are in Sioux Lookout tonight and Dryden tomorrow.




International Falls Broncos girls hockey team begins play in the Section 7-A championship with a home game against Proctor - 7 pm at Bronco arena.

The 15 and 8 Broncos are ranked fourth.

The boys team is in Baudette to play Lake of the Woods.

The Broncos girls basketball team faces Greenway - 7:15 at Falls High School.
