Local Sports for Wednesday February 8


A pair of wins yesterday is keeping Trevor Bonot of Stratton in the hunt for the Northern Ontario men's curling title in Sault Ste. Marie.

Bonot's foursome scored a 7-1 win over Colin Koivala of Thunder Bay and a 9-4 decision over North Bay's David McInnis to sit tied for seconds with three other rinks at 4 and 2.

Mike Jakubo of Copper Cliff leads the field with a 6-and-oh record.




Fort Frances Muskies court team took three of four games from Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos.

The senior boys basketball team all but clinched its division with a 42-18 win.

The juniors leaped past the Broncos for top stop with a 31-30 victory.

The Muskies junior girls volleyball team assured itself at least second place overall with a 3-set win over Kenora

The senior girls lost their match in four.




Fort Frances Muskies girls hockey team went down to defeat at the hands of the Kenora Beaver Brae Broncos 4-1.

Katie Sinclair had the Muskies lone goal.




Fort Frances Lakers face the Dryden Ice Dogs for the third time in nine days.

The game this time in Dryden.

The teams split games played at the Memorial Sports Centre last week.
