Local Sports for Tuesday June 19


Fort Frances Lakers didn't stray too far from home at the SIJHL draft held Sunday.

Four of seven picks were players from this region, including goalie Mark Loveday, forwards Tyler Mosbeck and Braden Webb of Fort Frances and Luke Spilde of International Falls.

They used their first round pick to take forward Daniel Del Paggio, who scored 72 points with the Thunder Bay Kings Minor Midget team last season.

The Lakers also selected Fort Frances Muskies forward Hunter Leishman as a protection draft selection made by all teams before the draft.




In the Borderland Soccer League women's division, Boston Pizza beat Al's Racquet Stringing 5-3

Taggs Source for Sports doubled up the La Place RendezVous Voyageurs 6-3.




Races at the Emo Motocross has to be cut short Saturday due to rain, but Dan Gavel still managed to take two of races in the ATV division.

Gavel won both the Pro and Open classes.

Competitors in the Superior Dirt Riders series will be in Atikokan Saturday.
